We offer services at:

Inpatient Hospitalization

  • Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) - 717-782-6493
    • This program provides short term inpatient behavioral health services for children and adolescents, ages 5-18 with severe emotional and behavioral difficulties
  • Services include individual, group, art, music, recreational and educational therapies as well as medication treatments when indicated.
  • Family involvement is central to treatment and aftercare planning. 
  • All staff are experienced in the treatment of severe behavioral and emotional problems in children and adolescents and are overseen by board certified child & adolescent psychiatrists.
  • Penn State Children's Hospital - Child Psychiatry Consultation and Liaison
    • This program providers mental health assessment and intervention services for children hospitalized at the Penn State Children’s Hospital.
    • We also provide consultation to the Emergency Department and Outpatient Pediatrics at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Providers should call the Hospital Operator to arrange consultation at 717-531-8521.

    • Individual and group counseling services and medication treatments for children of all ages with a variety of emotional and behavioral problems.
    • Medication treatments for children and adolescents with a wide range of emotional and behavioral problems.
    • Penn State Medical Group Psychological Assessment Program - a comprehensive assessment that addresses academic, social and cognitive functioning, with information collected from the patient, the family, school and other care providers by board certified psychologists.
  • Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) Hispanic Clinic - 717-782-2397 (calls returned Wednesdays and Thursdays)
    • Able to provide intake, assessment, therapy and medication services in Spanish to patients of all ages.
  • Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) Partial Hospitalization Program - 717-782-6493
    • A structured daily program for children and adolescents ages 7-18 that provides a mix of counseling and medication treatment.
    • It is specifically designed for children and adolescents that do not need hospitalization but require short-term, intensive, daily treatment.
  • Early Childhood Assessment and Treatment Program, 2626 North Third Street, Harrisburg, PA - 717-531-6772
    • Provides assessment and treatment to families with children from birth to 60 months old to address abuse, trauma and attachment issues
    • Services include assessment and therapy for children and their parents, both separately and together (dyadic). 

Integrative Care Services

We offer assessment and counseling services directly in medical offices across the street from the Children’s Hospital campus so children can receive treatment in the same place they received the rest of their medical care.

  • Child Psychiatry Consultation program at Penn State Pediatrics at 35 Hope Drive, Suite 102, Hershey, PA
  • Telephonic Psychiatric Services (TiPS) funded through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania so primary care clinicians anywhere in the central and Northeastern parts of the state can speak live to child psychiatrist for direct guidance on the assessment and management of behavioral health issues in children and adolescents covered by Pennsylvania Medicaid. The TiPS service can also help primary care providers to connect families to local mental health services in their community. To access this service, providers should call the Penn State Health MD Network Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 800-233-4082 and press 4 for kids to be directly connected to the service.
  • Short term counseling services at Penn State Pediatrics at 35 Hope Drive, Suite 102, Hershey, PA and in the Specialty Pediatrics at the Penn State Children's Hospital Outpatient Clinic at 200 Campus Drive, Entrance 4, Suite 1100, Hershey, PA). For patients who received their primary care in General Pediatrics at 35 Hope Drive, we also offer a family-centered program for the management of ADHD.   • Penn State Hershey Eating Disorders at 905 W Governor Rd, Suite 250, Hershey, PA through the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Adolescent Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry - 717-531-7235
    • Services offered - Outpatient and Intensive Day Treatment programs for children and adolescents
  • Sleep Medicine, Penn State Sleep Research and Treatment Center at 1214 Research Blvd., Suite 1159
    Hummelstown, PA 17036 in conjunction with the Department of Pediatrics. Please call 717-531-8520 (referring providers should fax request to 717-531-0678)
    • This program provides assessment and behavioral treatment of pediatric sleep disorders for children ages 2 to 16
  • Pediatric Neuropsychology services are provided for children who are patients of Penn State Children’s hospital and who have chronic health conditions. These services are intended to evaluate the effect that the health condition or treatment received for the health condition has on the developing brain. To access the service, please contact your primary care physician or specialist.
  • Counseling services and psychiatric assessment are also available for children hospitalized at the Penn State Children’s Hospital.
