Adolescent medicine: what we do
We promote good health for teens. We test for and treat health problems. We educate teens and their families.
Penn State Adolescent Medicine provides care for many teen health issues including:
- Eating disorders
- Family planning services
- Menstrual issues (problems with monthly periods)
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Sexually transmitted infections
Eating Disorders: what we do
Our Eating Disorders Program offers a full range of treatment for children, teens and adults with eating disorders. We treat:
- Anorexia Nervosa (very low weight, fear of gaining weight and/or starvation)
- Bulimia Nervosa (binge eating followed by forced vomiting or extreme exercise)
- Related eating disorders, including the new Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
We offer many types of service, including:
- Outpatient treatment
- Intensive outpatient treatment
- Partial hospitalization
Our expert staff collaborates with other health care providers to help with full recovery. Our goals are to help patients:
- Regain full health
- Improve nutrition
- Control unhealthy eating
- Recover mentally
- Prevent future eating problems
