Penn State Children’s Hospital stays on the leading edge of treatment for kidney diseases and high blood pressure in children by taking part in several research studies with nationally recognized organizations:

  • The North American Pediatric Renal Transplant Cooperative Study (NAPRTCS) is the world's largest and most active group of its kind. We participate in the NAPRTCS data collection studies, which includes:
    • Renal transplant patients
    • Renal dialysis patients
    • Patients with chronic kidney disease
  • A National Institutes of Health (NIH) - sponsored, double-blind study on the treatment of Focal Segmental Glomerular Sclerosis (FSGS)
  • Four End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network - pediatric data collection studies. These ongoing studies test the use of antihypertensive medications in children.
