Children's Heart Group
Penn State Children's Heart Group is a team of experienced pediatric cardiologists and pediatric and congenital heart surgeons within Penn State Children's Hospital. We work together to provide advanced heart care for patients with congenital (present at birth) or acquired (developed later) heart disease. We treat newborns, children, teenagers and adults who have congenital heart defects.
With pediatric cardiologists in every subspecialty and two expert pediatric cardiovascular surgeons, we have experience treating even the rarest of heart defects and conditions.
Our comprehensive program is a regional center of excellence. Children benefit from the expertise of:
- Pediatric cardiologists
- Pediatric and congenital heart surgeons
- Pediatric intensivists
- Pediatric anesthesiologists
- Faculty of highly trained pediatric specialists, sub-specialists and support staff
Award-winning heart care
Penn State Children’s Heart Group treats kids and adults who need surgery to correct congenital heart defects. Our success and survival rates are much higher than the national average.
Penn State Children’s Hospital has received a three-star rating for congenital heart surgery (the highest available) from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (for the rating period July 2012 - June 2016) and is proud to be included in U.S.News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals 2017-18 specialties rankings.
The Children's Heart Group provides care to children from several underserved areas throughout the world. With the help of Variety Club International Lifeline Program and the Rotary Club, we have provided open heart surgery to many children from Colombia, Honduras, and Ecuador at no charge to their families. This is the only hope of treatment for these children. Without surgery, they have little chance of reaching adulthood.
